For a lightweight application, VuMAP sure does some heavy lifting when it comes to day to day productivity in your real estate or law practice. Today’s rarely asked question highlights a simple but powerful built-in tool that will help speed up your research; the query tool.
- Find the location on a map
- Query to review the attributes of features in the area
- Bookmark the chosen features
- Save the attribute information to a spreadsheet
The video below will show you how, and lets you preview the property parcel features you won’t see with a free trial subscription.
Wait! Back It Up… VuMAP?
When you subscribe to VuMAP, you’ll have unlimited access to browse highly detailed aerial imagery plus view tabular information for a variety of queryable mapping layers, such as property boundaries.
The Query Tool
VuMAP provides the geographic context to see how the map features relate to one another, if for example, a parcel is dominant with servient easements. This is the type of contextual information that’s not possible when searching through lists of addresses.
All visible layers that have query information will be displayed in the results when you click on the map. You can review details for all the queryable feature types at the same time, which are: geodetic control points, township lot and concession fabric, the places to grow layer, aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, and soils descriptions, as well as Teranet parcel and assessment parcel (PIN and ARN).
Saving Your Query
You can save your query results into the My Marks tab by clicking on Add To My Marks. Name the query and click save. You can find this feature’s information again later in the My Marks tab, under the query menu.
Exporting Your Research
Last but not least, you can save your query details into a table to work with feature attributes outside of the map. If you’ve saved multiple queries for multiple layers, you will see them all when you create a csv file. This way, you can compile a list of locations you’re actively working with, and add your own notes about the features you searched.
